Eid al-Fitr

The end of Ramadan is known as Eid al-Fitr, a day when Muslims celebrate the conclusion of the month of fasting and the beginning of Shawwal. Eid al-Fitr is a significant religious holiday that marks the end of a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection. On this day, Muslims perform special prayers and share meals with family and friends, seeking forgiveness and reconciliation.
In Malaysia, the festival is called Hari Raya Aidilfitri. People return to their hometowns for family reunions, don festive attire, perform morning prayers, and then open their homes to welcome relatives and friends for a feast.
In Indonesia, Eid is filled with community prayers and family gatherings. The tradition of Silaturahmi, visiting relatives and friends to share food and gifts, is widely practiced.
In Taiwan, particularly in Taipei, special markets and performances are held to celebrate Eid and promote cultural exchange. The markets offer a variety of Muslim cultural stalls, including food and religious decorations.
In Brunei, known as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the festival is a grand celebration where families and friends gather for special prayers and forgive each other. During this period, the Istana Nurul Iman palace opens to the public, and members of the royal family greet visitors.
These celebrations are not only religious ceremonies but also expressions of cultural and community unity. Each country has its unique traditions and activities, making Eid a vibrant festival.
the cuisine: In Malaysia, people enjoy beef or chicken rendang, a spicy curry cooked with coconut milk and spices. Ketupat (compressed rice cake wrapped in palm leaves) and lemang (glutinous rice cooked in bamboo tubes with coconut milk) are also indispensable parts of the festive fare.
Indonesian specialties include lapis legit, a layered cake influenced by Dutch colonial history and popular in the Netherlands. Additionally, ketupat (rice wrapped in coconut leaves) is a staple during Eid.
In Taiwan, due to the relatively small Muslim community, there may not be specific traditional dishes, but during Eid, people gather to enjoy various foods, typically featuring specialties from different Muslim cultures.
Brunei’s Eid cuisine is similar to that of Malaysia and Indonesia, including rendang and ketupat, as well as lemang cooked in bamboo tubes wrapped in banana leaves.
These dishes not only enrich the culture of Eid but also allow people to savor delicious meals on this special day.

還有ketupat(包在椰葉中的壓縮米飯)和lemang(在竹筒中用椰奶煮的糯米)也是節日中不可或缺的美食。

此外,ketupat(用椰葉包裹的米飯)也是開齋節期間的主要食物。
